History

Since entering Zambia in 2001, the Fifteen Mcc Africa Construction & Trade Limited has consistently adhered to the "iron army spirit" of being "mobile, effective, and robust." Evolving from single-project construction to a full-industry-chain layout, and from being a technology follower to an industry leader, the company has written a remarkable chapter of deep cultivation overseas and win-win development on the African continent by a central state-owned enterprise.

Pioneering Beginnings: Taking Root in Zambia (2001-2009)

In May 2001, China 15th Metallurgical Construction Group undertook the surface civil engineering project for the main western ore body of the China Nonferrous Metals Mining Group in Zambia, officially marking its entry into the Zambian market and sowing the seeds of hope for China-Zambia mining cooperation. In 2007, the company reached critical milestones: In February, the 150,000 t/a blister copper smelter project at Chambishi commenced construction, marking a milestone moment in China-Zambia cooperation. In July, President Mwanawasa personally visited the construction site and unveiled the foundation commemoration plaque, expressing high recognition for the project's progress. In August, the Fifteen Mcc Africa Construction & Trade Limited. was registered in Zambia, signifying a solid step forward in the company's localized operations.

The year 2009 became a major milestone in the company's development: In May, the Fifteen Mcc Africa base was completed and officially established, forming a stable operational core. In the same year, the Chambishi 150,000 t/a Blister Copper Smelter project undertaken by the company won China's inaugural Luban Prize for Overseas Construction Projects, establishing the "15 Mcc" brand with its exceptional quality and setting a benchmark for Chinese engineering projects abroad.

Steady Development and Diversified Expansion (2010-2022)

Entering the 2010s, the company's business footprint continued to expand, extending from mining construction into diverse sectors. In July 2010, the Luanshya Mining Project Department was established, successfully securing the long-term mining contract for Mufulira, consolidating its leading position in the mining sector. In 2014, the company achieved a breakthrough in market expansion by undertaking the Zambian Ministry of Health National School of Medicine project in Lusaka, earning high praise from the Zambian government for its quality performance.

In 2016, the company advanced on two fronts: On one hand, it undertook the Zambian Prefabricated Affordable Housing Project, successfully delivering 20 plots by 2019. Then Zambian President Edgar Lungu attended two handover ceremonies, highlighting the profound impact of this livelihood project. On the other hand, the Chambishi Steel Structure Factory was completed and inaugurated, with an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons, laying the foundation for localized supporting services. In 2018, Africa's first digitalized mine—the Chambishi Copper Mine Southeast Ore Body project in Zambia—officially commenced operation, with President Lungu attending the inauguration ceremony, marking the company's attainment of industry-leading technical capabilities.

From 2020 to 2022, honors and business progressed hand in hand: The Chambishi Copper Mine Southeast Ore Body exploration and construction combined mining and processing project successively won the Excellent Welding Engineering Award and the Chinese Construction Engineering Luban Prize (Overseas Project), continuously enhancing the brand's influence. In May 2022, the Mwambashi Mining Project Department was established, successfully securing an open-pit mining project, further expanding the boundaries of the mining business.

Deep Cultivation and Upgrading: Leading the Industry (2023-2025)

In recent years, the company has accelerated its transition towards localization, diversification, and intelligentization, entering a new phase of development. In 2023, social responsibility and market expansion proceeded in parallel: In July, the Luanshya Engineering Project Department was established, undertaking the China-Zambia Vocational Technical School project. In August, the company-handover ceremony for the donated school project in Southern Province, Zambia, was attended and witnessed by the Zambian Minister of Education. In December, the company secured the United Capital 300,000 t/a fertilizer plant project in Zambia, successfully entering the market in the Zambian capital.

The year 2024 was a fruitful year for technological breakthroughs and market expansion: In April, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema attended the pump submergence ceremony for the Luanshya New Mine No. 20 Shaft dewatering project, marking the company's official entry into the underground mining sector. In October, the company conducted localized recruitment at the Copperbelt University and Confucius Institute in Zambia, strengthening the foundation of local talent. In December, the "CNMC No. 2" TBM was launched, becoming the first TBM in Africa, leading technological innovation in African mining construction. In the same month, the company secured the Chifumpa 3,000 t/a cathode copper hydrometallurgical plant project under an "engineering-for-resources" model, achieving a zero breakthrough in this model overseas. Concurrently, it won the bid for the open-pit stripping project at the Sinomine Katoonba Copper Mine, with a total stripping volume of 70 million tons over three years, further consolidating its position in the mining market.

In 2025, the company's layout was upgraded once again: In January, it received multiple honors including the 2024 Advanced Unit Award and the Profit Contribution Award. In March, the Zambia Regional Headquarters, Zambia Design Institute, and Shenyang Nonferrous Metals Design Institute Zambia Branch were simultaneously inaugurated, marking the formation of a full industry chain layout encompassing "construction + design + operation" in Zambia. The company is steadfastly advancing towards its vision of "building an international engineering company with core competitiveness."

Over more than two decades of persistent cultivation, the Fifteen Mcc Africa Construction & Trade Limited. has grown from a single-project construction team into a large international enterprise with operations spanning multiple regions of Zambia, possessing 6 top-tier qualifications, and employing over 2,400 people. In the future, the company will continue to use technology as its wings and localization as its foundation, writing more new chapters of win-win cooperation on the red soil of Zambia.
